VISTA Volunteer & Grants Coordinator
 
 
 
Are you interested in strengthening community learning while helping the underserved of Lawrence, Kansas? The Lawrence Public Library (LPL) seeks an enthusiastic and compassionate VISTA to build a sustainable volunteer program for the library. In addition, our VISTA will write grant applications and fundraise to help build capacity for library programs that serve Lawrence's low income community. The successful candidate will create a promotional plan and develop a transition strategy to permanently transfer operations for its VISTA-built volunteer program to the library. Our VISTA will document all volunteer program policies and procedures into a resource plan for ongoing support of the program. In the area of grant writing, our VISTA will research and write grants, including those that will help to strengthen LPL's Summer Lunch and Summer Reading programs for low income children. He/she also will develop new and innovative fundraising strategies for the Library Friends and Foundation. Lawrence Public Library is located in the heart of downtown Lawrence, Kansas, a fun and funky Midwestern college town of 90,000. It is a short drive to Kansas City and all its big city amenities. Lawrence has made a significant investment in its public library by expanding and renovating its downtown facility. We are continually rethinking traditional library services and have reimagined the way in which we serve our community, particularly for those individuals who do not have access to books and computers at home. The library is looking for an organized, energetic, creative, and collaborative person who also is a strong writer to join our team. Member Duties : Lawrence Public Library’s VISTA will build a sustainable volunteer program for the library. In addition, our VISTA will write grant applications to help build capacity for library programs that serve Lawrence's low income community. Specific duties include: (1) creating a promotional program to recruit top notch library volunteers; (2) developing a system for matching applicants with library jobs that fit their interests; (3) setting up training sessions for volunteers; (4) serving as the library’s point of contact for volunteers; (5) developing ways to recognize volunteers; and (6) creating a transition plan to ensure volunteer program sustainability. In addition, our VISTA will research and write grant applications for library programs that serve Lawrence's low income community. He/she also will research and develop effective fundraising strategies (online and traditional) for the library's Friends and Foundation.
