Rural Communities Resource Center-Linking Yuma County

Linking Yuma County is an informal group that came together over 20 years ago to bring community organizations together to collaborate on program and service delivery, and to identify gaps and work to fill them through the creation of programs and fund raising. Yuma District Hospital, City of Yuma, Yuma Soil Conservation District, Rural Communities Resource Center, Northeast Colorado Health Department, Baby Bear Hugs Home Visitation Program, Workforce Center, Centennial Mental Health Center, Colorado State University Extension, Early Childhood programs, and other Linking Yuma County members will work with VISTA members and others in our community to increase awareness, programming, and resource collaboration within Yuma County. We will promote healthy behaviors, create economic opportunities, explore housing options, and develop financial and health literacy connections for individuals and families. Yuma County is situated on the high plains in Northeast Colorado with an elevation of 4,000 feet. It is an agricultural and ranching community located 2 ½ hours from metro Denver. Yuma has over 260 days of sunshine a year and a population of 10,000. It’s a good place for hiking, bike riding, exploring and enjoying beautiful unimpeded sunrises and sunsets, observing wildlife and experiencing life in a rural community. 26% of the population is under the age of 18 and 60% of school age children qualify for free or reduced price lunch. 20 % of children under the age of 18 live below the poverty level. 27 % of children in school are English language learners. 84% of students graduate from high school. (2014 Kids Count Colorado & Colorado Children’s Campaign) Linking Yuma County plans to work with a diverse group of health providers, organizations, businesses, agencies, educators, churches, community members and other service providers and to seek out new and different opinions.
