Corps18 Student Success & Parent Engagement (San Francisco)
 
 
 
The Corps 18 Program will implement quality evidence-based out-of-school time programming designed to improve attendance rates and improve attitudes toward school through the successful connection of community members and parents to the school. Corps 18 VISTA members will focus in four main areas: Cultural and Academic Literacy, Health & Wellness, STEM and P.L.A.Y. These efforts will ultimately have a positive impact on overall student success by using levels of engagement and student attendance as key indicators. This relationship development will achieve a new level of personalization between students and their families while deconstructing perceived and real barriers in the process.

Member Duties : *Enhance tutoring/mentoring programs in the San Francisco Bay Area *Research and develop community asset maps *Conduct visits with partner schools/tutoring sites and parent support organizations to assess school needs for volunteer tutors. Work with school partners/stakeholders to identify gaps in parent programming *Collect surveys from parent education workshops and tutor training sessions to monitor the effectiveness of trainings *Serve as community liaison for the development of sustainable community partnerships *Attend all relevant school/community meetings to identify key stakeholders, including parents, potential volunteers, and local business owners/managers *Recruit and train lead tutor volunteers *Plan school community activities to increase student success and parent/community engagement *Submit monthly reports and great stories *Develop systems for collecting data from schools on student progress; promote community participation in the PTA.
