Public & School Partnership - VISTA Summer Associates
 
 
 
The Public & School Partnership at Utah State University selects qualified applicants to serve as AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer In Service To America) members or VISTA Summer Associates in local schools and community organizations in the Cache Valley area. The Summer Associate program is a 10-week summer term. PSP's Summer Associates work during local hours of operation to help site supervisors coordinate summer learning, meal, or substance abuse prevention efforts at local schools and community organizations. Summer Associates will work with youth, volunteers, and site staff. Specific activities vary across the available sites. Summer Associates work 40 hours/week, receive a living stipend, and can choose between an end-of-service education or cash award. Associates are NOT granted vacation or sick days during the 10-week service. **REQUIRED - in your motivational statement, include your TWO (2) preferred sites where you would like to be interviewed. 2018 Summer Associate sites are: 1. Adams Elementary (summer learning camp), 2. Cache Makers (STEM learning camps), 3. USU's Center for Civic Engagement & Service Learning (partnership building & food pantry), 4. Common Ground (youth leadership camp), 5. Ellis Elementary (english-learning camp), 6. The Family Place (summer camp and respite center), 7. Logan Family Center (summer learning camps), 8. Northern Utah Native Connection (family engagement events and program development), 9. Stokes Nature Center (summer learning camps), 10. Utah Conservation Corps Urban Community Farm (improving on land/structures and community education).

Member Duties : Summer Associates will support organizations to prevent summer learning loss, provide affordable and accessible meals, and provide substance abuse prevention resources. Associates will work closely with site staff and full-time VISTA members to continue existing reading, STEM, and social skills programs, research and pilot new programs that meet student needs, raise awareness of post-secondary options, coordinate food programs for at-risk students and families, and procure donations to build site capacity. Specific activities vary by site.
