Cornerstone-B&G Club-Summer Associate

Our Program will offer additional focus on literacy and reading activities throughout the summer, with practice using electronic reading tools, 1:1 reading assistance, small groups, and large group readings. In addition, youth will be exposed to a wide variety of enriching programming in character, academics, and healthy lifestyles. Youth will engage in guided reading a minimum of twice weekly, with a focus on the basics of literacy such as Letter Knowledge, Phonemic Awareness, Alphabetic Decoding, Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Spelling. Youth will be assessed twice during the program. Staff will read to groups using “big books,” and facilitate youth to read independently in a dedicated learning space. Community partners ensure youth receive hot meals daily, along with a healthy snack, so hunger is never a barrier to learning. Volunteers and staff will assist in individual reading activities with youth throughout the program.
