South Side Roots provides nutritious food to the community while helping to foster the positive impact that fresh food has on the physical and mental health of our neighbors. Our model is an innovative concept in food banking that creates a mixed income dining and shopping experience within the Reeb Avenue Center - a single site with multiple nonprofit organizations focused on holistically serving the diverse needs of the South Side. We welcome all who wish to spend time in our space, which is designed to be a warm gathering place that builds community while offering quality, fresh, affordable foods. South Side Roots is owned and operated by Mid-Ohio Foodbank. SSR & MOFB are VISTA sub-sites of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks ShareCorps program.

Member Duties : VISTA member will help develop the Summer Feeding Program at Roots and create activities that will engage the children and keep them coming back. Foster partnerships with other non-profit tenants and local schools and community members to increase awareness and participation in South Side Roots programming and community meals. Engaging parents and guardians so they are aware of our resources. Assist with finding sponsors for each community meal (52 a year). Connect local resources and organizations to the Community Meal so that our South Side neighbors have an increased awareness of Roots and access to affordable, healthy foods. This will help us work towards our vision of a hunger-free and healthier community. Someone with a knack for marketing and enjoys engaging with their community would be a great fit!
