Dakota Co Sheriff's Office- Housing- (Emerge)

**APPLICANTS CANNOT BE ON PROBATION OR HAVE SERVED TIME IN A CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN THE LAST YEAR! MUST HAVE RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION. The Housing Specialist position is part of the Emerge VISTA program and will be serving out of the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office in Hastings MN. DCSO is a paramilitary organization that is directed by elected official Sheriff Tim Leslie, an innovator and avid supporter of jail programs. Our facility is known throughout Minnesota for its creative programming, and we have been recognized county and Minnesota-wide for our efforts. This is not a "typical jail"! Our facility is innovative and unique. The mission of the DCSO is to provide a safe place for community members and families to live, work, and thrive. The VISTA will work alongside a dynamic and eccentric team of jail programs staff and associates that share a collective goal to improve the lives of offenders through education and support. Our passionate team strives to maintain existing programs and create new evidence-based programming that addresses risk factors that lead offenders to recidivate. It is our experience that these factors, if unmanaged, ultimately lead ex-offenders back to our doors and into the cycle of re-incarceration. We aim to metaphorically “break the chains” in incarceration by supporting our offenders with re-entry tools that will allow offenders to return to our communities better off so that they can contribute positively to society. This will ultimately create more stable families, strengthen our communities, and reduce the financial burden on our taxpayers. Programs that we offer include chemical dependency, employment readiness, anger management, parenting skills, domestic abuse prevention, general education and college preparation, cognitive thinking skills, and relapse prevention, to name a few. The jail is a 24/7/365 facility that offers a unique, fast-paced, and challenging environment for a mature and adventurous VISTA.
