Youth and Family Programs VISTA
 
 
 
Family Resource Center and RE-1 Valley School District partners to connect people and organizations who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to empower low income students and families for success. The VISTA will work within Logan Knowledge is Power to develop a formal network of Logan County agencies working in the areas of education, income, and health, as well as develop programs and events that provide low income parents and students access to educational and community resources. These resources include: food, housing, medical and financial resources. The missions of the School District and the Family Resource Center are: Preparing Each Student Today for Tomorrow, and the future. The VISTA Volunteer will assist in developing materials and communications regarding existing but under-utilized parent education opportunities, youth leadership groups and youth dropout prevention initiatives through working with Logan County’s businesses, nonprofit groups, faith-based organizations, government agencies and other citizens in the community.

Member Duties : Organize a formal network of Logan County community and schools working in the area with social norming efforts to increase graduation rates and decrease substance abuse for low income students by utilizing training offered from state organizations and local volunteers. Create a plan for assisting capacity building in nonprofit organizations working with low income families through documenting best practices (board management, fundraising, program delivery, volunteer recruitment, etc). Work with the Family Resource Center and the Inter-Governmental Oversight Committee to assist in developing and implementing best practices strategies that had been identified to prevent drop out, drug abuse and addiction. Assist in collecting baseline data for evaluation of youth programs and events. The VISTA will assist in expanding these programs, based on the data, through outreach, program development and building partnerships with local businesses and nonprofit agencies.
