Ohio Campus Compact Connect to Complete - CSCC

The Ohio Campus Compact C2C Program, supported by AmeriCorps VISTA members, assists disadvantaged students from the lowest socioeconomic status (SES), and the colleges they attend, (including four-year public and privates, regional campuses, and community colleges) in addressing the causes and impact of poverty. The commitment and skills of AmeriCorps VISTA members are utilized to expand the scale, reach, and effectiveness of this successful peer-to-peer mentoring and advocacy program. Ohio Campus Compact's C2C Program is prepared to improve college success and completion, of first-year, low-SES students, ultimately contributing to move local communities out of poverty. The C2C Program addresses the critical needs of first-year, low-SES college students who often experience significant barriers in trying to graduate with postsecondary credentials. The program specifically addresses students who enter college in a developmental education or first year experience class and receive a need-based Pell Grant. The C2C Program connects successful 2nd year students (Peer Advocates) with first-year, low-SES, Pell Grant-eligible students who are enrolled in a developmental education or first year experience course. Peer Advocates (PAs) connect C2C students with available college or community resources, involve them in community engagement activities, and provide vital academic and peer support for navigating the first year of college one semester at a time. This multi-pronged, peer-based approach has proven, to be an effective and efficient tool to assist colleges in achieving higher rates of course completion and improving college persistence, success and graduation rates. C2C students, as a result of their participating in the C2C Program, demonstrate an increase in confidence in their academic abilities and career aspirations as well as an increase in their personal and professional development, involvement in and commitment to serve their local community.
