Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth - Youth Engagement- (MLC)

The Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth exists to give youth 10-19 in Brooklyn Center & Brooklyn Park a chance to thrive by connecting them to opportunities afterschool and during the summer, and seeks to create a community in which youth experience increased graduation rates, increased pathways to college and career, and increased youth safety and well-being. The Alliance works with its partners to achieve positive change in these impact areas. Working in collaborative teams with staff from school districts, cities, the county and higher education institutions allows the Alliance to impact policy at multiple levels in the community and allows our partners to see change with a wide ranging impact. We recognize that these three issues are complex, multifaceted, and no one entity or organization will be able to solve it for every youth in the entire community. The Alliance works with nine key partners to achieve its vision and mission: Cities of Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County, Robbinsdale Area Schools, Brooklyn Center Community Schools, Osseo Area Schools/ISD 279, Anoka-Hennepin Schools, North Hennepin Community College, and Hennepin Technical College). The vision for this AmeriCorps VISTA project is to, by the end of the three years, build a sustainable infrastructure to increase youth engagement at all levels of Alliance partner organizations and to increase participation in out-of-school-time opportunities that build social emotional skills and increase youth success. Youth engagement is a process by which youth have positive experiences and are actively engaged in their own development and success. The VISTA will assist Alliance partners in integrating the feedback and voice of young people into their program design and implementation. Opportunity to gain skills in presentation training, partnership development, youth engagement, quality program design and assessment, and youth work.
