Beacon House-Catholic University Education and Healthy Futur
 
 
 
The Maryland-DC Campus Compact (MDCCC) is a non-profit membership association of public, private, 2- and 4-year colleges and universities. MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTAs (www.mdccc.org) placed at higher education institutions across the Maryland-DC region encourage and promote the expansion of service and quality campus-community partnerships. The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA at the Beacon House- Catholic University Education and Healthy Futures Project will aim to educate at risk females regarding the possibilities for higher education, personal development, athletic accomplishment, enhanced nutrition and general well-being. Through athletics and mentorship from college athletes, the goal is to engage young girls ages 7-13 in healthy living models. The MDCCC AMERICORPS VISTA project will seek to educate at risk females regarding the possibilities for higher education, personal development, athletic accomplishment, enhanced nutrition and general well-being. Through athletics and mentorship from college athletes, the goal is to engage over 50 young girls ages 7-13 in healthy living models. One MDCCC AMERICORPS VISTA member will contribute to the goals of the project by performing activities such as developing curriculum for healthy-living program for at-risk girls in Beacon House, ages 7-13, train and coordinate female CUA student athlete’s to lead workshops about healthy-living: exercise, healthy eating, body-image, create a team of female Beacon House student leaders with female Catholic University students to serve as an advisory board for program initiatives and organize regular campus visits to Catholic University for various activities- to include athletic competitions/games over the course of three years.

Member Duties : The MDCCC AmeriCorps VISTA will Develop curriculum for healthy-living program for at-risk girls in Beacon House, ages 7-15; train and coordinate female CUA student athlete’s to lead workshops about healthy-living: exercise, healthy eating, body-image; create a team of female Beacon House student leaders with female Catholic University students to serve as an advisory board for program initiatives; organize regular campus visits to Catholic University for various activities- to include athletic competitions/games; coordinate and support academic/mentoring programs through Beacon House- focusing on females ages 7-18; create training manual for Catholic University students healthy-living/mentoring program and help to bridge gap of successful Beacon House athletic program and Division III CUA Athletic program- focusing on female athletes.
