NECIC Housing VISTA

NECIC has a social enterprise staffing service called Temp2Higher and is currently developing its second, a microfarm project. The project is a massive partnership with OSU that creates a cooperative of sixteen microfarms within the city and Richland County. These small plot, high yield microfarms will be operated by low and moderate income individuals as a small business to grow, aggregate and sell 1 or 2 crops to institutional buyers. Each microfarm receives a “kit” consisting of raised beds, 2 -30 x70 Hoop houses, seeds, soil and other items needed to start. OSU itself will be one of the main consumers for this three year pilot project. NECIC has received a microbusiness development grant that can help these new small business owners develop their business plans and increase their chances of success. The training and technical assistance provided by our Certified Business Advisor and Consultant, Jim Stoner, as well as making microloans available to these new microfarmers.
