Summer Reads- Duluth, MN

Make a difference in a child’s life by being a mentor, role model and fostering a love of reading. Our integrated focus on academics, social emotional skills, youth development and community engagement lead to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. The Duluth Community School Collaborative takes a preventive approach to addressing poverty’s negative impact on youth by working closely with students and their families to develop the skills they need to become educated and active members of the community. The Collaborative’s summer programs are geared toward providing exceptional enrichment experiences for children that broaden horizons while building upon essential academic, social and life skills. Hillside Youth Theatre offers youth multiple opportunities to develop their intellectual, literacy, social, and life skills through an integrated academic and Performing Arts Program. The production of their play will be the culminating event for their summer of study. Reading comprehension and vocabulary development will be embedded into all summer activities. These positions are part of the Summer Reads program of Minnesota Literacy Council, which provides tutoring and literacy-focused enrichment to children in grades K-3 in schools, libraries and nonprofits across the state through the leadership of AmeriCorps VISTAs. MN Literacy Council fosters an organizational culture that is welcoming and inclusive to all. See our full diversity and inclusion statement here: https://mnliteracy.org/about/diversity-inclusion
