Summer Reads - Duluth, MN (LitMN)

At Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland, we are dedicated to ensuring that our community’s youth have greater access to quality programs and services that will empower their lives and build great futures. The Club Experience offers daily access to a broad range of programs that promote academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Hundreds of youth at the Dave Goldberg & Lincoln Park Branches take advantage of the programs, activities, and services provided by Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland each summer. Our kids benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who help them enrich their lives, envision their goals, and achieve great futures. We serve health meals & snacks daily to any youth present. Our mission: To empower and inspire all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as caring, productive, responsible citizens. The pandemic has taken a profound toll on young people’s academic and reading levels. The Clubs have always made education a top priority but it is now more important than ever. This position will help to narrow the literacy gap that has only increased since the pandemic and work to instill a love of reading in our club members. A new position for our sites, service members will have the opportunity to help develop a high-quality literacy program from the ground floor up! *Positions are part of Literacy Minnesota’s Summer Reads program, which trains and places about 70 AmeriCorps VISTA members as K-5 children’s literacy mentors in schools, libraries and out-of-school-time programs. https://www.literacymn.org/americorps-vista
