North Carolina Campus Compact VISTA (2016-2017)
 
 
 
NC Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of 31 colleges and universities that are committed to educating civically engaged graduates and strengthening communities. These engaged campuses strive to enhance their students’ sense of responsibility, citizenship, leadership, and awareness of community, and impact the community by partnering with local organizations to address real needs. The NC Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA program places VISTA members at community and campus host sites to build partnerships and develop programs that leverage higher education resources to assist low-income communities.

Member Duties : NC Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA members will work with community agencies and campuses to develop a partnership that addresses local needs in one of three areas: education, economic opportunity, or food security. The specific nature and objectives of the project vary depending on host site. Most VISTA members share work time between campus and community partner offices, and thereby gain experience in both non-profit and higher education arenas.Member duties include: • Assess community and agency needs and identify assets • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers • Create policies and procedures that increase agency effectiveness • Support citizen and student leadership and participation in service • Seek new resources through fund-raising and grant-writing • Facilitate service-learning placements, community-based research, and co-curricular opportunities that support communities • Create publicity and outreach materials • Coordinate national day of service events
