GIVE. GROW. SERVE. TOGETHER. The COMCorps program in rural Athens and Washington Counties strives to make sustainable changes for Southeast Ohio. COMCorps supports programs that provide access to evidence-based nutrition education, healthy fresh food, and preventative and primary health care services for children and their families. The overall end outcome is to reduce BMIs in school-aged children. The program focus is on obesity prevention via activities such as the Live Healthy Kids nutrition education curriculum, gardening education and outreach, increasing healthy food access and consumption, and providing health screenings to area schools. COMCorps engages students, families, and community members to play an active role in their health and well-being. COMCorps members GIVE their passion, talents, and knowledge; GROW through professional development, leadership, and cultural experiences; SERVE 10.5 or 12 month terms for approximately 32-40 hours per week over their service year to those in need to impact community change; TOGETHER with 24 members serving in 17 host sites including schools, nonprofits, and government agencies in Southeast Ohio to create a network of relationships to get things done.
