OSMRE/WHWT VISTA Tamarisk Coalition

The OSMRE/VISTA will work closely with their host organization, the Tamarisk Coalition located in Grand Junction, Colorado, and Steering Committee to support and develop the Cross Watershed Network (XWN). The Cross Watershed Network unites resource (land and water) managers and communities addressing common challenges: leveraging resources, building capacity, and collectively implementing riparian restoration actions in an effective manner that promotes information sharing, stewardship and long-term success within and across watershed boundaries. The OSMRE/VISTA will support the functions of the XWN and serve communities that have degraded watersheds where restoration is dependent on economic goals (e.g., youth corps employment, increase tourism and river access, sustainable economies, employing local contractors); and increase the number of watershed groups participating in XWN, specifically by recruiting groups in watersheds impacted by mining. OSMRE/VISTA will support local community restoration projects by ensuring that XWN is helping to meet the needs of local groups spearheading economic improvement projects (related to watershed restoration). OSMRE/VISTA will assist the sponsoring organization in fostering environmental stewardship by researching watershed concerns, assisting with water quality monitoring, and developing strategic watershed-based planning critical to future funding and project development/implementation, in addition to supporting environmental education initiatives for the community and sponsoring organization. VISTA will assist sponsor organization in enhancing community awareness and involvement through education and outreach. Candidate requirements: team oriented, able to work remotely with people, has a car to drive and valid license and is willing/able to travel (probably once per month on average).Preferable/not required: natural resources experience/understanding;Traits: outgoing/social, leadership, initiative/self-motivated.
