15-16 Iowa Campus Compact - Buena Vista University
 
 
 
Iowa Campus Compact is a statewide coalition of colleges and universities committed to the public role of higher education. We provide services to our members that enhance their ability to engage students, staff, and faculty in their communities including professional development opportunities, technical assistance, networking, grants and other programming. The 2015-2016 IACC VISTA Program will work to build partnerships between our member campuses and their community partners in an effort to build capacity and alleviate poverty in relation to education and economic opportunity. The Buena Vista University VISTA will work closely with the Storm Lake Community Schools' Teammates Mentoring program to match mentees with mentors to improve students' academic performance in literacy and/or math.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member will work with Buena Vista University’s Civic Engagement office and Teammates mentoring program with Storm Lake Schools to enhance capacity building for at risk youth and those in poverty. The VISTA member will work towards increasing attendance and academic performance through the mentoring program. The VISTA member will work directly with student organizations and student leaders to advise them as they lead service initiatives and events. Additionally, they will assist the Director of Civic Engagement with encouraging and educating the campus community to implement and track civic engagement experiences that address community needs in the areas of education and economic opportunity. This position is located in Storm Lake, IA.
