IAC Primary Prevention VISTA (in Fairbanks)
 
 
 
Incidents of domestic and dating violence in Alaska reflect some of the highest per capita rates in the nation.Historically, efforts have been focused on responding to incidences of violence, but it is possible to stop it! The Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault VISTA Program gives members the opportunity to put an end to violence in the state by building capacity for primary prevention of domestic and sexual violence both locally and statewide. The VISTA member will help build coalitions to address DVSA on the local level, work with media to spread awareness, and help strengthen youth prevention programming such as Girls on the Run. **Benefits include: Monthly living allowance ($1222), relocation costs ($0.34/mile up to $1000) and settling in allowance ($550) for members moving 50+ miles, health benefits, child care assistance, all expenses paid training, an Education Award ($5,775) or cash stipend, a cold weather gear allowance ($275), and a $3,000 stipend for housing.

Member Duties : Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living's (IAC) vision is a community free of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse. We are seeking a VISTA to assist in expanding and implementing primary prevention programs as part of an energetic prevention team. The VISTA will focus on enhancing the sustainability and scope of existing prevention programming, including the Girls on the Run program. They will also work with the IAC prevention team to explore bringing additional prevention programming to Fairbanks. The VISTA will coordinate with the Borough schools to collaborate on prevention efforts and continue work on a community needs assessment regarding primary prevention in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. The mission of IAC is to provide secure shelter and immediate safety for women and their children who are experiencing domestic violence or sexual assault, with the goal of reducing the need for those services by providing primary prevention programs for our community.
