Member Duties : Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) is a local domestic violence shelter in beautiful Sitka, an island community of 9,000 residents in Southeast Alaska. We provide services to victims of violence and work to prevent future violence by promoting healthy relationships and respectful communities. SAFV has been implementing innovative prevention programs since 2004. Our prevention programs are aimed at youth to build resiliency and promote diversity, respect and gender equity. The VISTA will be instrumental in expanding these efforts to include parents and men/boys. The VISTA will help establish an infrastructure that supports positive parenting programs; support male engagement programs such as Coaching Boys into Men; participate in the local prevention coalition; and increase capacity for healthy relationships curricula in the schools.
