Boys & Girls Clubs - Google Code Corps Volunteer Specialist

Code Corps is a volunteer-led program to deliver Google's Computer Science (CS) First programming and other technology experiences to 5,000 underserved youth in communities across the United States. This exciting opportunity will put 20 VISTAs, paired at each of the 10 locations, in the forefront of bridging the opportunity gap for underrepresented youth in tech. This initiative targets girls and those of Hispanic/Latino, Native American, and/or African American populations ages 10-14. Nationwide, there is a crisis for qualified technical professionals of the targeted populations. This program promotes equity and access to computer science programs; the project will build the capacity of ten local Boys & Girls Club organizations to implement technology programming, and develop and sustain a skilled volunteer recruitment program and management system. Code Corps members provide the Club with visible support and expertise for technology and technology education for the remainder of the two of three years. VISTA members will be the establishment of a skilled volunteer corps, developing a network of higher education, corporate partners, and community partners who provide reliable and skilled trainers and mentors for the computer science programming efforts. The goal for each Code Corps site is to have a sustainable program of high quality computer science experiences that extend beyond the VISTAs' year of service. Aside from CNCS Pre-Service Orientation, assigned Code Corps VISTAs will have the opportunity to travel to Google headquarters to receive specialized training as well as work with a national network of sites and local community partners. VISTAs will serve at each of the following communities: Chicago; Portland; Bay Area; Silicon Valley, Raleigh, Boston, Washington, DC, Omaha (Nebraska), and New York City,
