KAH

Keep Austin Housed (KAH), a project of Front Steps, affects positive change in the lives of children, youth, and adults who are at-risk of experiencing, currently experiencing, or have formerly experienced homelessness. KAH places 35 full-time Members in 10 non-profits in Austin. Half-time members serve 40 hours per week over the course of a 5 and a half month term, in which they work directly with individuals to overcome barriers to housing, employment, and personal stability. In addition to work at their sites, members develop personally and professionally through team building events, trainings, and service opportunities. Members must be 20 and have some college experience. Work and/or volunteer experience with the homeless populations and/or general service delivery is preferred. Prospective candidates are pre-screened with an AmeriCorps national application, as well as a project specific application found here: http://www.frontsteps.org/keep-austin-housed-web-to-lead-form-2/ Candidates will not be considered until both applications have been submitted.

Member Duties : Keep Austin Housed members serve approximately 40 hours per week at their service site. General hours are M-F 9-5, with some weekend projects required. Members will assist with existing case management services by providing more intensive support and life skills training to address specific housing, employment and personal stability barriers, helping the client make significant, lasting changes in their situation. Activities will be determined by the needs and goals of each client. AmeriCorps members assess for client needs, develop action plans to meet goals, and provide guidance as clients work towards self-sufficiency. In addition, members educate the community-at-large on issues related to homelessness and leverage the support of community volunteers.
