VYDC-Laraway Youth & Family Services

The Vermont Youth Development Corps AmeriCorps State Program (VYDC) is a statewide national service program whose members serve at innovative, youth-focused organizations that address critical community issues and help youth thrive. Laraway’s mission is to provide opportunities for children and families to recognize their individual strengths while supporting them to grow and contribute within our communities. We serve youth and their families through 3 separate programs; Laraway School, a licensed special education independent school & a coeducational day treatment for youth K-12; Substitute Care, Laraway’s therapeutic foster care program, offering back-up crisis services 24/7; Backpack program provideing comprehensive, strengths-based, individualized supports to youth K-12 within the public school setting. At Laraway, we recognize and celebrate the therapeutic and educational value of hands-on learning, rigorous physical activity and play. Seasonal rituals include apple cidering, maple sugaring and our annual talent show. After school activities and our Summer Program find our kids creating art, cooking meals together, enjoying movie nights, volunteering at the local animal shelter or food shelf, working in the gardens and more. The member supports all 3 programs to integrate land stewardship through experiential education, recreational therapy, and skill building. Our efforts further the creation of a resilient landscape that supports the mission of our organization by integrating our services with the development of regenerative agricultural systems, sustainable yields that offset climatic and environmental impacts, the creation of places that encourage and facilitate outdoor recreational and horticultural therapy and ultimately help inspire, connect and prepare our youth through the lens of ecological literacy. Personal transportation highly recommended, please submit resume and cover letter.
