Maker Ed @Lighthouse Creativity Lab

The Maker VISTA program fosters maker programming year-round in locations across the nation. The program places members in underserved and/or under-resourced areas to reduce poverty by inspiring youth from low-income communities through maker programs that engage them in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), the arts, and learning as a whole. The goal of the Maker VISTA Project is to build the capacity of youth serving organizations that engage youth in making by developing educational frameworks. Maker VISTA at Lighthouse Creativity Lab integrates design and making into students' educational experiences to deepen learning of core content, provide a true context for character development, and increase engagement in school for all students. We believe that making in education is so powerful that we also provide professional development for educators who are interested in integrating making into their own practice. The Creativity Lab is part of Lighthouse Community Charter School, a K-12 school, serving 750 mostly low-income students.
