VHCB AmeriCorps -Land Management Coordinator (VLT)
Vermont Land Trust’s mission is to conserve land for the future of Vermont. As a result of VLT’s recent strategic planning, we have begun to build programmatic capacity to help improve the quality of land management of conserved properties. The goal of this position is to help VLT move forward with deeper investments in conserved land management for their long-term sustainability, ecological restoration of these lands, and improving access and use of conserved public lands. Service will be performed in a combination of traditional office setting and in a field setting. Office hours are typically M-F during daytime hours, but occasional evening meetings and weekend events may occur. Field setting will vary and include active agricultural settings, remote forest settings, uneven terrain and inclement weather. Position begins September 11th, 2017 and ends August 10th, 2018. This position is Full Time: Requires 1,700 hours and serves approximately 40 hours per week for 11 months. Member will receive a living allowance of $17,850 (pre-tax), and an education award of $5,815 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : • Invasive species management including developing management plans, conducting invasive insect surveys and removal of invasive plants on public, non-profit, tribal or VLT lands. • Water quality enhancement projects such as riparian buffer planting and coordination of volunteers for planting • Field and remote mapping, and boundary delineation of VLT Fee Lands • Research of land management organizations and with support, create a final report of findings • Review and prioritize specific land management needs on VLT conserved land portfolio • Monitoring of conservation easement lands in line with VLT’s current protocols
