UWKC Volunteer Program Specialist, WithinReach

Families in King County are facing a daily struggle to meet their basic needs. Crucial food and health resources exist to support them, but access to these programs often requires navigating a complex system of social services. WithinReach supports low-income families by directly connecting them to wide array of food and health programs - in particular Basic Food, WIC, Medicaid, and Summer Meals. But we know that barriers still exist, including stigma, language, transportation - and have a limited staffing capacity to fully serve the volume of clients who need in-depth support and assistance, which is why building the volunteer capacity at WithinReach is a critical strategy in reaching more individuals and families.

Member Duties : The VISTA's primary responsibilities will include building additional volunteer capacities for basic needs benefit applications and resource assistance, implementing a volunteer impact plan, creating and implementing summer meals volunteer positions, and coordinating a Day of Caring project. The VISTA will recruit and train community volunteers, who will support our food and health access work by following up with clients.
