GWServes Community Partnerships VISTA Leader
 
 
 
The George Washington University (GWU), in downtown Washington DC, is seeking a VISTA Leader to build the capacity of the GW/District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) program that places VISTAs to support Title 1 schools. The VISTA Leader will develop project activities and sources of community support to expand successful community partnerships and volunteer programs between public schools and community organizations. The VISTA Leader will guide, develop, support and liaise with the other VISTAs in the program, help VISTAs identify and develop new partnerships, seek additional program resources, expand communications and information sharing, evaluate program efforts, and identify training and professional development opportunities for VISTAs. Key attributes a successful Community Partnerships VISTA Leader will need to perform successfully: • Ability to reach out to, lead, guide, coach, and provide support to VISTAs and other project stakeholders. • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and achieve goals. • Adaptability, flexibility, and willingness to learn from experience. • Strong written and oral communication skills. • Experience designing and leading volunteer programs. • Ability to identify and plan ongoing training, professional, and personal development opportunities for VISTAs. • Ability to work with diverse groups and people at multiple levels of organizations.

Member Duties : VISTA Leader role • Provide observation, advice, feedback, and guidance to VISTAs. • Arrange training and professional development for VISTAs. • Provide opportunities for personal growth for VISTAs. • Help VISTAs identify, communicate with, and work with potential community partners. • Gather and share information about effective practices for partnership development. • Support resource development strategies by VISTAs. • Help VISTAs engage parents, community members, and higher education volunteers and volunteer programs. • Support program fundraising and reporting efforts. Projected impacts: • Improvement of existing school-community partnerships. • More partnerships, volunteers, volunteer projects, volunteer hours. • Increase parent engagement. • Increase school satisfaction with partnerships and partner satisfaction with schools. • More resources to meet student needs. • Improved student outcomes.
