VHCB AmeriCorps - Volunteer and Service Coord (GWC Shelter)
 
 
 
Groundworks Shelter is a program of Groundworks Collaborative, whose mission is to provide ongoing support to families and individuals facing housing and food insecurities. The goal of this position is to enhance the services available by recruiting and organizing volunteers, supporting shelter residents, and creating programming opportunities for the shelter. Service Conditions: This position resides in our full time year round homeless shelter and work will be completed in the office, community house space, resident rooms, in the grounds surrounding the shelter, and in the community. Position begins September 11th, 2017 and ends August 10th, 2018. This position is Full Time: Requires 1,700 hours and serves approximately 40 hours per week for 11 months. Member will receive a living allowance of $17,850 (pre-tax), and an education award of $5,815 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of service. Member Duties : Essential Functions: • Provide residents with on-going support as they work towards achieving their goals, including some resume writing, budgeting and completing housing applications. • Contact Residents at regular intervals after they have left the shelter to collect data on impact of shelter stay on sustainable housing. • Recruit and manage volunteers to support shelter operations. • Assist residents with completing housing applications and support with residents with daily chores • Maintain case notes on a daily basis • Screen individuals and families seeking shelter, maintain and complete accurate screening information Marginal Functions: • Implement new programming and service projects for residents including peer support groups, life skills and recreational groups. • Assist with intake process, forms and record keeping as needed.
