FruitShare Outreach and Training Coordinator

The Green Urban Lunch Box is a young and innovative organization based in Salt Lake City. Our mission is to empower people to engage in local food production by using the resources available in their community. We do so by connecting people to a creative network of spaces and opportunities. We believe that waste reduction and creativity can go a long ways toward helping low-income families have access to fresh healthy food. We are a fast growing, ever changing organization that encourages our employees to help shape the future of our organization and think outside the box. We operate four programs in Salt Lake City. Our first program is a 35 foot school bus converted into a mobile greenhouse/produce cart. Our bus travels to community events where people can learn about our cause, purchase local produce, and see how food can be grown in unique spaces. Our second program is the Back-Farms which provides elderly community members with local volunteers to work together to convert their backyard space into urban farms (fruit and vegetable gardens). The Back-Farms program provides our participants not only with easy access to produce, but also facilitates a cross generational connection between homeowners and volunteers creating healthier communities. The third program we run is a farmer training program that provides the tools and resources (land, mentoring, water, and equipment) necessary to help new urban farmers start a career in small scale agriculture. Finally, our Fruit Share Program seeks to reduce food-waste and meet our community’s need for fresh, local, low-cost produce. Homeowners with fruit trees register their trees, we coordinate volunteers to go harvest the trees and the produce is split between the homeowners, volunteers and immediate hunger relief efforts. All of our programs are growing rapidly and we are looking for team members to help take them to the level.
