SR1 COOL Education Project
 
 
 
AmeriCorps Members provide year round (academic year and summer recess) innovative tutoring and mentoring services to economically disadvantaged students in grades K-12 residing in the central Mississippi counties of Hinds, Madison, and/or Scott. Additionally, the AmeriCorps members will be responsible for attending all member trainings and meetings, managing student’ files, completing monthly timesheets and other required documentation, planning and participating in national days of service, successfully completing service hours and actively serving to support all program efforts. AmeriCorps Members must have reliable transportation, must demonstrate qualities of reliability, consistency, dependability, sense of responsibility, and an ability to maintain confidentiality. Responsibilities may require adjusted work schedule. SR1’s COOL Education Project encourages undergraduate and graduate students to apply who major in fields such as Education (Elementary, Secondary, and Post Secondary), English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and History. However, all college students with various majors can apply to serve with AmeriCorps COOL Education Project if willing to remain committed to completing the required service hours and other AmeriCorps service commitments. Candidates must: (1) have passion for serving to improve the academic and social skills of economically disadvantaged K-12 students, (2) possess excellent communication (writing and computer) skills, (3) be skilled in effectively communicating with K-12 school administrators, students, student caregivers, SR1 staff, AmeriCorps members, and community members, (4) ability to attend required trainings and participate in required service days, and (5) have obtained or be working toward a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
