On Track Academy Youth Entrepreneurial Coordinator- Year 2

The Spokane Public Schools On Track Academy is located on the Spokane Skills Center campus and is a credit completion program designed to provide students high levels of interactive and relevant learning opportunities, a close look at career options, and paths to college and training after graduation. At the Academy, kids are looked at as individuals with instructors helping them figure out what they need to be successful and meet the same learning targets as other students, but with the ability to show their learning differently. Their partnership with the Spokane Skills Center allows the students to learn about careers they are passionate about as they earn college credits. This opportunity is great for someone who is a “people person” and able to be flexible, someone who possess great communication and technological skill sets and wants to help students be successful in life. The VISTA will help build capacity to engage students in their future. Helping the students bring their dreams into reality by connecting them to resources, job shadowing opportunities and fun competitions that help promote the entrepreneurial spirit. Spokane Washington is a big city with a small town feel. Lots of outdoor recreations, a strong non-profit community and beautiful scenery with the lushes Spokane River running throughout the city.

Member Duties : The On Track VISTA Youth Entrepreneurial Coordinator will be tasked with setting up opportunities for the On Track Academy High School students through project based learning opportunities. The On Track VISTA will help prepare and launch a mentor program, work with community partners to set up internships and job shadowing, create online learning platforms, develop infrastructure for student centered community events and find creative ways to engage students to gain entrepreneurial skills. This is a great opportunity to positively impact the lives of students, so when they are graduating from High School they are already “On Track” towards the career path that is right for them. The student at On Track face adversity in many different ways. They come from the Hillyard community in North Spokane, one of the poorest neighborhoods in Washington State. They are bright kids who need support and possibilities. This VISTA will help do just that!
