Memphis Challenge - Technology Coordinator

Memphis Challenge (MC) is celebrating 25 years of inspiring and developing future Memphis leaders. Founded in 1989 by J.R. “Pitt” Hyde, MC identifies and coaches high achieving high school students (grades 9-12) of color, and takes them through a core curriculum of personal and professional workshops such as authentic leadership, goal setting/time management and public speaking. Our goal is to help students make the best college "match" in order to increase post-secondary retention and completion rates for minority students. Only 23.7% of Memphis residents have a college degree. Increasing the number of HS students who graduate from college and return to work in the city will help Memphis realize a greater talent "dividend" and help further reduce the city's 27% poverty rate. To that end, MC serves as a pipeline to top tier colleges and universities. In the summer, MC provides internships in their fields of study for their collegiate cohort that return to Memphis. The Memphis Challenge makes a difference for Memphis. Out of 570 high school students who completed the program since its inception, 310 have returned home, resettled, and are fully employed working for local businesses, corporations, nonprofits and government agencies. Over the last ten years the organization has grown from a cubicle at AutoZone with part-time contract staff to an engaged board of directors, staff and documented program success.
