So. Nevada VISTA Program - Leaders In Training

Education Week’s Quality Counts Report ranked Nevada last in students’ opportunities for success. Regarding college access and success: • 15 out of 100 students in the state of Nevada will earn a Bachelor’s degree & • Nationally 8 percent of first-generation college students graduate with a degree. Attainment of higher education is the key-lever proven to end the cycle of poverty for families. Though Nevada ranks 49th in degree attainment, Leaders in Training is the only Las Vegas-based college access non-profit organization. Furthermore, our mission is to create future Nevada leaders and civically-minded human capital for our own community. By building awareness of college access and a brand for our relatively-new organization, developing fundraising campaigns and strategies, and ensuring we have internship partners, an AmeriCorps VISTA member’s time, effort and dedication would directly address Nevada’s community need to eradicate poverty through underrepresented students becoming the first in their family to earn a college degree.
