*BMVP - VISTA Leader

The Community Development Division is a catalyst for joining community partners with resources to increase access to housing, to create a sustainable community, and to promote neighborhood revitalization. There are over 13,000 individuals experiencing poverty in Billings, and homelessness continues to be an issue for several thousand people in the community each year. Hundreds of individuals and families are homeless in Billings on any given day, including families with children. In order to maintain momentum for homeless initiatives sponsored by the City of Billings - Community Development Division, staff created an AmeriCorps Volunteers In Service To America (VISTA) program known as the Billings Metro VISTA Project (B-MVP) in 2009; sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service. The B-MVP brings valuable resources to organizations fighting homelessness and poverty within the community; strengthening their service capacity and organizational viability for long-term poverty impact. Target populations include those experiencing poverty, with special emphasis on Veterans, American Indians, children and the disabled. To date, 278 VISTA members have engaged in service to build capacity for 59 local organizations in economic opportunity, healthy futures, education, and veterans / military focus areas. This project will impact poverty through the facilitation of projects designed to enhance services for agencies that assist community members in need. **Candidates must have completed a previous AmeriCorps or Peace Corps service term.**
