City of San Antonio SA2020

SA2020 is a community vision for the future of San Antonio. It is a list of goals created by the people of San Antonio in 2010 based on their collective vision for San Antonio in 2020. In 2010, a total of six public meetings for citizens to develop goals and targets for San Antonio began. Almost 6,000 people participated, ultimately identifying 11 Cause Areas for improvement: Arts & Culture, Civic Engagement, Community Safety, Downtown Development, Economic Competitiveness, Education, Environmental Sustainability, Family Well-Being, Health & Fitness, Neighborhoods, and Transportation. In March 2011, these areas were to be measured by the success of a total of 65 indicators. In February 2012, SA2020 was established as a nonprofit organization to lead the community-wide efforts to achieve this vision. SA2020’s mission is to catalyze the community into passionate, focused, and sustained action to achieve the shared goals that will transform San Antonio into a world-class city by the year 2020. In June 2013, SA2020 released its first Progress Report, reporting on all 65 original SA2020 indicators. This report revealed the areas in which San Antonio was excelling, on track to succeed, off track, or regressing. This report also allowed for evaluation of the original indicators’ strength and relevance. With expert input and public approval, an updated list of 59 data indicators was released in August of 2013. Additionally, SA2020 is tracking sub-indicators that will help inform strategy and guide progress toward achieving the 59 main targets. SA2020 is the North Star for the community, guiding vision and strategy. We do this by: • Engaging the community through volunteerism and data reporting • Advancing policy • Mobilizing funding around SA2020 targets • Supporting collaboration between SA2020 Action Networks and the nearly 80 Opportunity Partners • Measuring progress with updated data reporting
