2017-18 City of San Antonio Head Start VISTA

The Head Start program is a federally funded early childhood education and development program administered by the US Department of Health & Human Services. The program provides education and family support services to children between infancy and five years. The City of San Antonio Head Start program provides high quality program services to 3,236 children and their families in 19 Head Start sites and six Early Head Start – Childcare Partnership sites located in San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) and Edgewood Independent School District (EISD). The City of San Antonio has served as a grantee for the Head Start Program for over 30 years. Prior to July 1, 2013, the City had been the single grantee for San Antonio and Bexar County, serving 6,789 children in twelve school districts. Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher. Head Start programs build relationships with families that support family well-being and positive parent-child relationships; families as learners and lifelong educators; family engagement in transitions; family connections to peers and community; and families as advocates and leaders. This opportunity is located in San Antonio, TX – home of the Alamo and the San Antonio Spurs! From the Missions to the Hill Country, San Antonio offers so many things to see and do, ranging from major theme parks to the River Walk lined with restaurants, patios, galleries and shops.
