20-21 Second Harvest Volunteer Center Coordinator
An AmeriCorps member is being recruited to serve as Volunteer Center Coordinator. This position will play an important role in increasing volunteer capacity to for youth-focused projects at Second Harvest's new Wolff Family Child Hunger Solution Center. The AmeriCorps member will recruit, train and engage more community volunteers in food sorting and packing projects that help ensure that healthy food supplies together with nutrition education reach low-income families with children. Second Harvest will interview qualified candidates immediately. Second Harvest was founded in 1971 as a central warehouse for a handful of food pantries in Spokane. Today, hunger solution centers in Spokane and the Pasco partner with 250 neighborhood food banks, meal sites and other programs to feed more than 55,000 hungry people each week in the Inland Northwest. About 40% are children age 18 and under. Second Harvest provides food for the equivalent of 69,000 meals a day that fill nutritional gaps for people in poverty, the working poor, elderly and disabled people on very low fixed incomes, homeless people, and children and families in crisis.

Member Duties : The Volunteer Center coordinator will recruit, train and engage volunteers in Second Harvest’s youth-focused initiatives. This position will cultivate relationships with volunteers through email and social media channels, community message boards, and other techniques. This will include creating flyers to promote volunteer opportunities that support increased food access for children, as well as designing and presenting displays at resource fairs and other venues, when needed. A priority audience for volunteer recruitment will be businesses, churches and other organizations (known as "Adoptive Organizations") that sponsor schools for Second Harvest's Bite2Go weekend food program. The AmeriCorps member will regularly share impact stories with volunteers to honor their commitment to ensuring children have access to healthy food. Key performance indicators tracked by this position will be unduplicated volunteers, total volunteer hours, and any nutrition education or related activities.
