Community Wellness Specialist
 
 
 
The Family Wellness Specialist will develop, implement and evaluate systems designed to increase access to affordable, healthy, traditional foods that decrease health issues plaguing the Native American community, including diabetes and obesity. The Family Wellness Specialist will design systems to create capacity for physical education, sports, and outdoor recreation programs for the Native American community, that increase access to long lasting physical activity and lead to lasting positive health outcomes. Member Objectives include: 1) Use best practices and creative thinking to innovate new ways to engage the community around healthy food access, particularly amongst community members that live in areas of the Portland Metropolitan Area where fresh foods are limited and expensive. 2) Support community-wide garden-based education program. 3) Design inclusive recreational program for out-of-school time including seasonal programming. 4) Design inclusive physical education curriculum for NAYA’s Early College Academy.
