Alliance VISTA: Hirsch Academy

The Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits is a statewide unifying organization formed in 2004 to advance the common interests of more than 20,000 nonprofits in the Grand Canyon State. The Alliance aims to connect nonprofits to each other and the community, grow the impact of the nonprofit sector and amplify the voice of nonprofits throughout Arizona. Through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Alliance has the opportunity to partner with local organizations throughout the state to coordinate AmeriCorps*VISTA projects. This specific VISTA project is with Team CFA & Hirsch Academy in Scottsdale, AZ. Team CFA is a growing national network of tuition free, public, charter schools serving more than 6,000 students across 3 regions of the United States. Team CFA serves as a support organization for schools providing proven academic, governance and business tools needed to graduate thoughtful and engaged youth. Hirsch Academy was founded in the fall of 2013 by Team CFA and currently serves 84 youth K-3 in the Paiute neighborhood in southern Scottsdale. Each year, Hirsch Academy hopes to grow one grade level, eventually becoming a K-6 school. The majority of the youth and their families live within three miles of the school, 92% are English Language Learners and 98% receive free or reduced lunch based on their household income levels being far below the poverty level. Hirsch Academy recognizes the importance of connecting their students and families with resources beyond the classroom. The VISTA project goal is to strengthen community engagement to benefit students and families at Hirsch Academy.
