Alliance VISTA: Local First Arizona

The Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits is a statewide unifying organization formed in 2004 to advance the common interests of more than 20,000 nonprofits in the Grand Canyon State. The Alliance aims to connect nonprofits to each other and the community, grow the impact of the nonprofit sector and amplify the voice of nonprofits throughout Arizona. Through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Alliance has the opportunity to partner with local organizations throughout the state to coordinate AmeriCorps*VISTA projects. This specific VISTA project is with Local First Arizona and is located in Cottonwood, AZ. Local First Arizona seeks to promote, support and celebrate a vibrant and sustainable Arizona economy by educating citizens about the relationships between local business ownership, social equity, cultural diversity, environmental kinship and collaboration. In 2013, the Local First Arizona Foundation merged with the Arizona Rural Development Council and became Arizona’s federally designated rural development council. The Local First Arizona team works to empower individuals, families and communities to grow and support entrepreneurship as a means to create a diversified economy and a pathway to prosperity across multiple sectors. Local First programs range from WeekendZona which encourages in-state tourism to strengthen local economies to Fuerza Local, a micro-business program for low income Latino families. This VISTA project would focus on Local First Arizona initiatives in northern Arizona.
