17-18, Solid Ground, Nutrition Educator - School Based
 
 
 
Nutrition Education at Solid Ground promotes healthy eating for adults and children that experience poverty and oppression. We are a team of school- and community-based educators guided by the belief that all people deserve to live healthful lives. Nutrition Education collaborates with schools, community organizations, health centers, and local agencies to provide a six-week, six-lesson curriculum that expands the knowledge, skills, and confidence of participants to prepare healthy and affordable meals at home. School-based nutrition educators will: • Lead nutrition education classes with 2nd-5th grade students using engaging, hands-on curricula to Seattle Public Schools students that experience food insecurity, in collaboration with Solid Ground Nutrition Education Coordinators. • Develop, lead, and coordinate cooking or garden-based afterschool programming with students at partner elementary school sites • Support Nutrition Education staff with school-based events and health promotions, attend school events and write blog posts, and recruit and coordinate volunteers for classroom-based and afterschool programming These positions are contingent on funding.

Member Duties : At their respective school site, School-based Nutrition Educators will support Nutrition Education’s service in three ways: lead classroom-based nutrition education classes & lead afterschool & Cooking Matters for Families classes. Specific duties include: 1. Lead nutrition education classes w/ 2nd-5th grade students using engaging, hands-on curricula developed by Solid Ground. 2. Develop & lead cooking or garden-based afterschool programming w/ students; assist w/ Cooking Matters for Families programming. 3. Collaborate w/ Nutrition Education Program staff to support school-based family events & health promotions. 4. Participate in the recruitment, support & management of volunteers for classroom-based, community-based, & afterschool programming & events. Additional Duties & Responsibilities: Actively build relationships w/ students, staff, & families. Participate in discussion & learning w/ AmeriCorps team & Solid Ground teams to better understand & challenge institutional racism.
