Live in outstandingly beautiful surroundings and benefit rural communities preserving their rich heritage and environment. Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area is an 18 county initiative to develop heritage tourism and conservation of forest heritage assets. Join the AFNHA AmeriCorps team and help West Virginia communities to accomplish actual on-the-ground results for projects that conserve, develop and enhance natural, heritage and community assets in order to protect the environment and increase economic development based on heritage tourism. Position opportunities include environmental field work and outreach, community development and tourism, heritage development, and historic preservation. College degree or significant life experience preferred, candidates fresh out of high school are unlikely to succeed. Training in specific skills will be provided. Start of term is September 5, 2019, for 11 1/2 month commitment. Applications encouraged now, but late start possible if not all positions are filled.

Member Duties : AFNHA AmeriCorps is seeking members for conservation, community heritage, and historic preservation positions, to start in September 2019. See www.appalachianforest.us/americorps.htm for current openings. Submit cover letter by email in addition to application. Members choose from a variety of position opportunities. Conservation members serve with agencies and non-profits to improve public lands through field work, monitoring, and environmental awareness. Heritage development members assist local non-profits and museums with conserving and interpreting their heritage and with cultural heritage tourism. Community development members assist rural communities with improvement projects based on community assets, heritage, preservation, and tourism. Hands-On Team members provide service on a variety of projects, mostly historic preservation on historic community buildings, plus some conservation and heritage activities.
