Food for Life Program Development VISTA

The mission of the North Alabama Agriplex is to preserve the region's agriculture heritage and promote sustainable and innovative local agriculture in the future. The Agriplex is beginning the Food for Life program that is intended to promote healthy food access and supplement science education in Cullman County and surrounding areas. These goals would be accomplished by directly connecting people with local sources of fresh produce and education programs targeting children and adults in the community. Cullman, like many rural areas in Alabama, has a high rate of childhood and adult obesity among impoverished groups. Cullman also has a successful agricultural industry with many different types of crops and livestock produced locally. The combination of these two elements makes Cullman uniquely suited for the Food for Life program that will promote nutritious and local food. Thise positions will work to generate support to expand and sustain the Food for Life Program.
