23-24 Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group, Sustainability

This is an AmeriCorps national service position. It is contingent on funding and open until filled. The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group is a nonprofit organization at the Salmon Center in Belfair, WA. Our mission is to deepen the connection between land, people, and salmon through restoration, education, and research. The Salmon Center is located on 38 acres, beside the restored Union River Preserve and a network of trails. With high poverty and unemployment rates, our community is in need of access to fresh food and food/nutrition education. We operate a small WSDA-Certified Organic demonstration farm, Farm at Water's Edge, with accompanying education programs to improve food access in our community while educating about nutrition and the ways sustainable farming practices mitigate negative human impacts on salmon. The Member serving as Sustainability Coordinator join our team to implement nutrition and garden education programing for our Farm Stewards summer camp, 4-H club, in-school classroom visits, site field trips, and other events. They engage in the day to day management of our U-Pick gardens and P-Patch, providing fresh produce to our community as well as the tools and resources for families to grow their own food. Volunteer management, outreach, and grant writing are also included in this position.
