Construction Trainer Assistant
 
 
 
The Southeast Alaska Guidance Association (SAGA) is a nonprofit organization based in Juneau, Alaska. Since 2010, SAGA has partnered with the Juneau Douglas High School’s House Build program. This program teaches high school students how to build an affordable home from the ground up and throughout the school year students learn and experience all aspects of home construction. This position supports the SAGA Construction Manager staff in facilitating the project’s success. The Construction Trainer Assistant provides hands-on instruction to students in construction science and math, models positive work habits to student participants, prepares the job site for construction and learning activities, works with staff to build community partnerships, and collaborates with JDHS staff in classroom and field. Applicants must have knowledge/experience in house construction, and experience in youth education is highly preferred.

Member Duties : Juneau, Alaska: Assist Construction Manager in preparing the job site for construction and learning activities. Assist in teaching basic residential construction math and science skills. Assist in teaching safe and appropriate use of equipment and tools. Assist JDHS and Construction Manager in coordination of student work schedules, transportation between the school and jobsite, and additional program planning. Role model positive and productive work habits, including safety and risk management procedures. Coordinate and monitor the quality and quantity of student work. Works with the students to document project success on the JDHS House Blog. Adhere to the rules, regulations and code of conduct as specified in the Member Service Agreement. Will not engage in any AmeriCorps’ Prohibited Activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement.
