FIT VISTA - Program Development at AMTP and KYC

Both the Appalachian Mountain Teen Project (AMTP) and the Kingswood Youth Center (KYC) work to support teens that have limited access to enriching, extra-curricular opportunities and consistent support structures. Both organizations aim to give youth in their communities a safe place to land, where caring adults and peers, and an enriching environment, can help them transcend the often difficult circumstances in their lives (from typical teenage issues to struggles with poverty, trauma, grief, and social isolation). Both organizations are committed to helping teenagers find their place within their communities (social, familial, institutional, municipal), both by working directly with teens, and educating and collaborating with members of the communities in which they live.

Member Duties : The VISTA volunteer will be responsible for researching best practices for youth mentorship and teen drop in programs, and use this information to enhance programming and improve evaluation processes. They will also be responsible for volunteer recruitment, training, and management, and will assist administration with grant writing, fundraising, and community outreach. KYC: 1-5pm, Mon. – Friday, with flexible time for occasional evening and weekend events. AMTP: 8-12pm, Mon. – Friday, with flexible time for occasional evening, weekends and overnights.
