National Health Corps Chicago
National Health Corps Chicago is a program of the National Health Corps (NHC) and is administered by the Health Federation of Philadelphia (HFP), and implemented by the Public Health Institute of Metropolitan Chicago (PHIMC). The mission of NHC is to foster healthy communities by connecting those who need it most with health and wellness education, benefits and services, while developing tomorrow's compassionate health leaders. NHC Chicago members commit to providing 1700 hours of direct service in a community setting over 46 weeks. NHC Chicago members will serve at a local community organization (aka host sites) to improve health in Chicago’s underserved communities. Each host site creates a unique position description for each member that outline his or her specific project and duties. Throughout their service term, members plan and participate in group service projects and national service days in collaboration with other volunteer organizations. Additionally, NHC is committed to fostering members’ personal and professional development, and commitment to service through trainings and team building.
