ShareCorps-Franklinton Gardens-Urban Farm System Coordinator

Franklinton Gardens is a nonprofit healthy food advocacy organization anchored by a 1.5 acre urban farm. The organization serves the Franklinton Community by increasing access to healthy foods, educating about the benefits of healthy nutrition, and converting neglected space into aesthetically pleasing edible gardens. Franklinton Gardens was established in 2007 as a neighbor-organized community garden. The initiative has since grown to 7 edible garden sites that employ a wide variety of annual and perennial food production practices. The organization is a community anchor for food advocacy in Franklinton, and uses the produce from its gardens to inspire greater community action around gardening and healthier lifestyles. Franklinton Gardens sells the produce it grows at 2 Food Stamp friendly markets that the organization helped create in Franklinton. Produce also is directed to food-nutrition educational endeavors, after-school meals for youth, community meals, and area food pantries.
