GHCC/St. Ambrose - Financial Education Coordinator

Rooted in the mission of creating and sustaining housing opportunities for lower income individuals and establishing diversity in neighborhoods, St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center’s vision is to develop neighborhoods in Baltimore where homebuyers have the tools to make educated and informed decisions about purchasing homes they can truly afford. Unfortunately, Baltimore continues to suffer from the effects of the economic crisis and a faltering housing recovery. Low to moderate income residents face foreclosure because they have no savings, no budget, and are on the brink of financial ruin because of a family illness, death, or an unexpected expense. Our experience with clients during the financial crisis has shown that renters and homeowners alike are in need of greater financial education to ensure they have stable, affordable housing and are able to reach their financial goals. In February 2014 the foreclosure prevention division of St. Ambrose started a financial education curriculum for clients who are facing or are at risk of facing foreclosure. St. Ambrose is seeking a VISTA to expand and promote the financial education program to all clients across programming departments and the broader community. This position is sponsored by Greater Homewood Community Corporation (GHCC) in Baltimore, MD; and the VISTA member will serve at St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center in Baltimore, MD. GHCC sponsors more than 20 VISTA members at various nonprofit, government, and community organizations located throughout Maryland. Established in 1969 to help neighborhoods become safer, better places to live, GHCC's mission is to build and strengthen vibrant urban communities. GHCC provides monthly professional development opportunities and the support of a VISTA Leader.
