GHCC/MND - Client and Alumni Associate

Year after year, Baltimore City reports poverty and unemployment rates much higher than the national average. Maryland New Directions (MND) fights poverty by helping low-income individuals in Baltimore City find lasting employment through comprehensive career counseling, employment assistance, and post-employment support. Since 1973, MND has been recognized as one of the most successful workforce development organizations in the Baltimore area. MND seeks a VISTA member to increase the effectiveness of our Career Focus program, which helps unemployed and underemployed individuals living below the poverty level gain employment. The VISTA will launch and guide processes for a Client Advisory Board composed of MND alumni to help plan and implement new ideas to improve the Career Focus program for new and existing clients. The VISTA will also collect employer data and create ways for MND to build stronger relationships with employers. By better understanding the companies that hire our clients, MND can learn how to prepare clients to be successful in certain companies and fields, which will lead to higher employment and retention rates. This position is sponsored by Greater Homewood Community Corporation (GHCC) in Baltimore, MD; and the VISTA member will serve at Maryland New Directions in Baltimore, MD. GHCC sponsors more than 20 VISTA members at various nonprofit, government, and community organizations located throughout Maryland. Established in 1969 to help neighborhoods become safer, better places to live, GHCC's mission is to build and strengthen vibrant urban communities. GHCC provides monthly professional development opportunities and the support of a VISTA Leader.
