GHCC/C.A.S.E.-Live, Learn and Lead Academy Coordinator

The Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) recently implemented a new program called the 3L (Live, Learn & Lead) Academy to address the complex needs of foster youth who are transitioning or “aging out” of the foster system. The Academy is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary program that promotes a sense of belonging and community for this vulnerable population. The Academy offers intensive work with Transition Coaches to provide individualized services including client advocacy, specialized mental health counseling, academic preparation and post-secondary services, and assistance with clothing, food, shelter, and additional needs that are related to a successful transition to independence. Additionally, there are two recreational outings each month to build positive interpersonal skills and promote lasting friendships and a network of support. Our goal is to leverage a VISTA member’s skills, passion and commitment to build capacity and sustain the Live, Learn & Lead (3L) Academy by developing strong, collaborative partnerships with community resources (county, private businesses, civic groups, and the religious community), supporting the goals of members, while also building a financial foundation for the program. This position is sponsored by Greater Homewood Community Corporation (GHCC) in Baltimore, MD; and the VISTA member will serve with The Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) in Montgomery County, MD. GHCC serves as the VISTA Project Sponsor to more than 20 nonprofit, government, and community organizations throughout Baltimore City and Maryland. Established in 1969 to help neighborhoods become safer, better places to live, GHCC's mission is to build and strengthen vibrant urban communities. GHCC provides monthly professional development opportunities and the support of a VISTA Leader.
